In Memoriam
Today in band, I was coaching a couple of my students through a part only to accidentally call one of them by a wrong name, the name a student we had in our class who passed away about a month ago in a tragic accident. It was a hard moment for me and I imagine a hard moment for my students. A month has passed since our school lost four very talented and very bright students to an awful car accident. I taught all of them and still had one in my band when the accident happened, and the student that I called by the wrong name replaced the student that died. It has been difficult at times but the outpouring of love and sympathy from all over Alberta has been amazing and has helped with the healing. One cannot prepare for situations like these and never thinks about tragedies like loosing four students, brothers, sisters, friends. I think in the end it has helped our school and community become closer.
